On November 19, 2024, Pluto will dip into the collective water-bearer of Aquarius for 19 years. This is major and will only happen once during our lifetime because this slow-moving planet takes 248 years to orbit through all 12 zodiac signs.

If you know anything about Aquarius, you know they like to beat to their own drum. They’re not afraid to be different from the norm by showcasing their individuality—just like their sister sign, Leo. Unlike the lionesses, they like to bring forth their uniqueness to inspire change on a collective level. It’s intentional.

Your Aquarius friend always seems to be by themselves but has incredible lore between others. They like to have a unique feature that makes them stand out, whether it be a camp hairstyle, a funky color palette, or being a fan of a super-niche show in a foreign language.

Aquarius inspires others to realize that it’s okay to be different, move toward change, and still survive.

There’s also something special about Aquarius besides their rebellious nature. Collective community care is just as important to them as their special interests. If they’re at a party, there’s usually a fundraiser happening at the backend. If they vanish at an event, it’s usually because they have others in their community to tend to. You can’t tie an Aquarius down, but you can always count on them to be there...in your designated time slot.

So, how does the planet of death, destruction, and rebirth affect the eccentric sign of Aquarius? Well, remember that Aquarius is a humanitarian at heart. While Capricorn (the sign Pluto is in now) is about structure, tradition, work, and institution; Aquarius is about sticking it to the man for the liberation of all. Now, don’t expect us to be frolicking in the park like the Summer of Love—although I wouldn’t be surprised since, during that time, Pluto was in their sister sign Leo (if you catch my drift).

The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was 1778-1798 and some major collective shifts happened:

  • the discovery of the planet Uranus

  • the American Revolution

  • the French Revolution

  • the Industrial Revolution

  • the invention of the smallpox vaccine

These major collective movements didn’t happen overnight. Pluto is a generational planet and can take up to 30 years to move through a singular sign. These shifts will not be felt as intensely as, let’s say, a mercury retrograde or a solar return. However, the lasting effects on the collective will likely make history. We will be moving toward a more grassroots, humanitarian effort when it comes to technology, business, and spiritual care. This is a time to form engaging communities that we can lean on in the face of collective change. On a personal level, things will be dismantled and uprooted in the area where Aquarius is in your chart to make space for authenticity and freedom.

So that begs the question...how can we practice self-devotion when we should be focusing on community?
